Santa Margherita is just a short drive from Genoa Airport and close to the A10 Motorway (Autostrada dei Fiori) that runs across the whole of the Riviera and connects seamlessly with the A8 out of France. The resort is next to the more famous Portofino that is pretty but can be very touristy. Have stayed in both but would say Santa Margherita is the prettier resort and our favorite place on the Italian Riviera.
There are many lovely hotels close to the beach but would highly recommend the Imperiale Palace where we have stayed many times. Beautiful location and superb service. Interested then why not:

Snuggling in a beautiful natural environment of oaks, olive trees and pines, lemon trees and perfume flowers, La Colle sur Loup is a very pleasant health and tourist resort just a short drive from Nice Cote d’ Azur airport and half way between Nice and Antibes. It is also and less than an hour from the ski resorts of Greolieres and Andon.
La Colle sur Loup has a very long history with a community dating back to the 16th century and beyond. From its past there remains a castle still in good condition as well as a 12th century priory now converted into a restaurant (L’Abbaye), which still has a fortified gateway, corner towers, cloisters and a listed Romanesque chapel.

As for the natural side of things, the river “Loup” is one of La Colle sur Loup’s main attractions. Its banks are true oases of coolness, very popular during the summer time with a whole range of leisure activities to include two municipal parks, kayaking, rock climbing, lots of walking trails, playgrounds and even a pony club!
We have had a holiday home in La Colle for over thirty years and love the area. There is a wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes from magnificent hotels, family villas with pools to apartments that can be found on VBRO, Expedia and many other holiday booking platforms. The weather can still be very nice out of season where there are many attractive accommodation offers available.
We have had a love affair with the Cote d Azur for many years and would like to share some of the experiences of our ‘Happy Valley’ around the Rives du Loup or River Loup. The river has its source in the pre-Alps of Grasse in the Parc des Rives du Loup – a local area of natural beauty . It runs from the limestone highlands to the sea through wild and cool gorges, then wends its way down the valleys to the sea at Villeneuve Loubet, close to Antibes, giving its name to many pretty villages en-route
The South of France is a beautiful holiday destination but is really an area of two halves. Most visitors head along the cost from Nice to St Tropez but the real beauty starts two to three miles inland with the pretty villages in the foothills of the Alpes Maritime region of the Cote d Azur
Our destination is La Colle sur Loup, a pretty village on the Rives du Loup and one of the best locations to explore the Cote d Azur and beauty of the Alpes Maritime region. The village is just a short journey from Nice Cote d’ Azur airport and the centre on our ‘Happy Valley’
Our ‘Loop du Loup’ is is a journey around some of the prettiest villages in the South of France – starting from La Colle sur Loup to St Paul de Vence, then onto Vence, Tourrettes sur Loup, Le Bar sur Loup, Pont du Loup then stop for lunch at Grasse. Grasse. to complete the journey follow the route to Valbonne, Rouquefort- les Pins then down the Gorges du Loup back to LaColle.
